How to get from the castle to us
Leave the castle and you have a pleasant 19-minute walk: first through the old quarter below the fortress, then over the river and through the centre. The way is flat, fine with children and with a pushchair.
Walking route in Google MapsLeave the castle over the wooden bridge and walk down Strada Castelului, towards town.
Keep straight on through the old quarter until you cross the bridge over the river.
Walk through the centre until you reach Bulevardul Libertății.
At no. 2 you will see the stone with the HRANA logo at the entrance. You are here.
By car or taxi it is 5 minutes. Park right in front of the restaurant, on Bulevardul Libertății.
One meal, four Transylvanian tastes
If you have one meal in Hunedoara, make it this one: sheep's cheese from local shepherds, pasta made in our kitchen, trout, and the potato salad with pumpkin-seed oil the way Transylvania makes it.

The castle closes early. We don't.
A castle visit takes two to three hours. Most people come out between 13:00 and 16:00, hungry, and in winter the castle closes at 17:00. We are open until 22:00, so there is time to walk over without rushing, for a late lunch or for dinner.

Before you set off for the castle
Buy the ticket online
An adult ticket is 55 lei (2026). Bought online, it saves you the queue at the ticket desk, which reaches 20–30 minutes in summer.
Come on a weekday
The quietest hours are Tuesday to Thursday mornings. Weekends and public holidays are crowded, especially in July and August.
Allow time and good shoes
The visit takes two to three hours, with steep stairs and narrow galleries. Wear comfortable shoes; a pushchair will not go up the towers.
The castle car park is cash only
The castle car park costs 20 lei, cash only. The alternative: park on Bulevardul Libertății, walk to the castle and eat with us on the way back.
Groups and guides
Travelling as a group, by coach, or guiding one? Message us on WhatsApp a day ahead: we set the table and, if you like, agree a fixed menu together.
